Buy it Now Explained

Tuesday March 30, 2010, 12:53 pm

You can get an overview of our 'Buy it Now' feature on our Help page by clicking here. If you are still unsure about 'Buy it Now', then stick around and read the rest.

The 'Buy it Now' feature is set in place so that users never have to pay more than the online retail value of an item. You can come to QuiBids and not lose any money and come away with the item you want.  Granted, there are some people who will spend up to almost the item's retail value, not win the auction and then not exercise this feature...  This kind of act stuns us!  At that point, why are those users not using the Buy it Now?!   We strongly encourage our users to exercise this feature if you do not win the auction you're bidding on.  On the other end, if you do end up winning the auction, and get the item for a sweet deal, then that’s awesome!

Ok, so here's how it works.  Let's say you're going to bid on a $100 Visa gift card.  In this auction, you end up placing 60 bids (that's $0.60 a bid x 60 bids = $36).  You've just spent $36 in bids.  Now, let's say you didn't win the auction.  If you exercise the 'Buy it Now' feature, you will then need to make up the difference of $64 in order for us to send you the gift card.  By doing this, you have not wasted any money.  Now, if you did not exercise this feature, then yes, you will have lost the initial $36 in bids.  Taking this same example... say you spent that $36 on the auction and won.  You then won your $100 Visa gift card at a 64% discount.  Awesome.

Another example,  say you are bidding on a $1,549 Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" Laptop.  You place 180 bids, which means you just placed $108 worth of bids.  If you win the auction, then you would then be a saving 93% of retail value!  If not, then you can apply those bids placed to the value of the item by using the 'Buy it Now' feature and it will look like this:

Value of the item           $1,549.00
- (the value bids placed) $108.00

Your 'Buy it Now' price: $1,441.00

After you have purchased the item, we will process your order ASAP.

One thing to keep in mind with your bids is that only real bids can be applied to the 'Buy it Now' feature.  Voucher bids do not apply.  Voucher bids include the bid bundles you win, free bids we give out for a certain number of days, and/or other promotions we are offering at that time. Periodically we have promotions where we give out real bids and when we do, we let you know.  Also, you are able to see where you can choose the 'Buy it Now' feature below an auction's opened page.  You can view this whether you are logged in or not.

We hope this clarifies the 'Buy it Now' more thoroughly.  Don't hesitate to give us a shout via support@quibids.com if you need an in-depth answer to anything.  We'll gladly answer and help any way we can.

Happy Bidding!

when I have "real" bids and voucher bids can I choose which ones to use?

When bidding on vocher bids and lose why would you put a " "buy it now" feature on vocher bids knowing that these bids can not be used for future "buy it now" items and only for bidding. If you win the vochers then it's fair.

Jill@QuiBids Says:

You will have been using real bids to get it, so in order to not waste those bids if you lose, we still offer Buy it Now. And yes, those now obtained voucher bids cannot be used in other Buy it Nows.

I don't understand. So you mean if I bid with the Buy it Now bids that I bought and I don't win a bid and I don't want to pay to make the difference perhaps because I could get it in the store for the same price, then I lose the money I spend buying these number of bids? I cannot use them in another bid? I hope I am wrong.

Jill@QuiBids Says:

You place bids with the bids you buy from bid packs, not Buy it Now. Buy it Now is a feature to where you can buy the item at its retail value minus the bids you placed in that auction. It's suggested to use this feature when you place a larger amount of bids in an auction, lose and/or don't want to be out that money. You are not allowed to use those lost bids to any other Buy it Now in another auction or item.

when someone uses the the option buy it now and you do not win the auction , do you have to buy the item?

Jill@QuiBids Says:

No, you do not ever have to use the Buy it Now feature. It's just a smart way of shopping on our site, that way you won't be out any money. It's totally up to the user.

servo Says:

OK, so let's say I'm bidding on an item with a "buy it now" option. Let's also assume that I have 50 bids, half of which are voucher bids. If I lose the auction and use up all of my 50 bids in the process, I can still exercise the "but it now" option, right? The only difference being that only 25 of my bids would be deducted from the cost of the item?

Erin@QuiBids Says:

That's right servo, any real bids used can still be discounted, it just will not discount the voucher bids from the purchase.

Well, what If I've place a significant amount of bids on an item and then decide to use the Buy it Now feature, but another bidder uses Buy it Now before me. That means I've lost my money right?

Jordy@QuiBids Says:

No, any user who has bid on an auction has the ability to use the Buy it Now feature regardless of whether or not other users have used the feature as well.

What if I use the buy-it-now, after I lost the bid, does that count against the number of wins I have for that day, and the 28 days?

Jordy@QuiBids Says:

No, Buy it Now items do not count toward a user's daily or 28 day win limit.

May I stop bidding at anytime during the auction and still be able to utilize the buy it now feature?

Jordy@QuiBids Says:

Buy It Now offers you the chance to purchase any product at any time during the auction and up to 2 hours after the auction ends. To use the Buy It Now feature, you must have placed at least one bid in the auction. Thanks!
